Grapevine Lake Trails
Northshore Trail

Description: This single-track natural surface trail has trailheads in Rockledge, Murrell, and Twin Coves Parks. Various wildlife such as rabbits, foxes, and waterfowl may be seen from the trail as it winds along the lakeshore. The eastern half is less technical than the western, and is better suited to novice riders. Drinking water is available at all trailheads, with restrooms located at Rockledge and Murrell only. Particularly in the area of Twin Coves, the trail is very rocky and has a varied terrain. For easiest access, trail users are advised to access the trail in Murrell Park. There is no cost to access the trail at any of the trailheads.
Driving Directions:
To Twin Coves Park: From FM 2499, turn west on FM 3040. Take your first left onto McKamy Creek Road. When the road ends at Simmons, turn right. Turn left on Wichita Trail. The park entrance will be on the left and parking is almost immediately on the left.
To Murrell Park: From FM 2499, turn west on FM 3040. Take your first left onto McKamy Creek Road. When the road ends at Simmons, turn left. At the stop sign at the park entrance, turn right. Look for the sign on the right to the trailhead.
To Rockledge Park: From Hwy 121, head west on Hwy. 26. Turn right onto Fairway Dr. Continue over the dam and urn left into Rockledge Park. Trailhead parking is at the end of the park road. Please note: Parking at Rockledge is very limited and is usually very crowded. It is recommended that you access the trail in Murrell Park.
Knob Hills Trail
Length: Approximately 4 miles
Users: Hiking and biking
Description: Located on the west end of Grapevine lake, this natural surface trail traverses the prairies and bottomland on the north bank of Denton Creek. The trail is less rocky than the Northshore, but watch out for cactus and the occasional stray cow! Also, from Dunham Road over the White's Branch bridge is shared trail with equestrians. All bicycles and pedestrians yield to horses. There are no facilities on this trail.
Driving Directions: From I-35W turn east on FM 1171. At the intersection with Hwy 377, turn south onto the highway. The trailhead is on the left, approximately 1/2 mile south, just off the highway. Note: Drivers should use great caution when entering and exiting to or from the highway on this steep trailhead.
