Take a mind-bending journey with us from present-day Earth to the far reaches of space and the distant past. Explore how stars and galaxies—even the universe itself—change from birth to maturity to death, much like living things on Earth.

Twenty-seven full-color photographs, eight light boxes, 11 illustrated text panels, 24 sidebars and an introductory video capture the awe-inspiring beauty of the cosmos as seen through high powered terrestrial and orbiting telescopes. The Evolving Universe is organized by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in collaboration with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and is circulated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service(SITES).

The original exhibition was made possible by The Windland Smith Rice Nature's Best Photography Fund.
