Giddens Gallery of Fine Art Joins Grapevine's Growing Arts Community and Celebrates Grand Opening

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS (October 17, 2012) - Historic Downtown Grapevine welcomes The Giddens Gallery of Fine Art to its Historic Main Street. Located within the architecturally stunning Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau's Headquarters and Museum Complex, this new gallery joins a long list of artists, art galleries and artistic offerings within the City of Grapevine. To mark their opening, the Giddens Gallery of Fine Art will have a three day Grand Opening Celebration event October 26, 27 and 28.

The Giddens Gallery of Fine Art features more than 20 award winning artists working in a variety of art genres from old-world traditional to contemporary abstract. While the majority of the works are two dimensional pieces, the gallery also features three dimensional pieces such as sculpture. The Gallery's artists work in mixed media, palette knife, traditional brush work and the art of "Scherenschnitte," an old world paper-cutting technique.

Artist and gallery owner Cherie Giddens' watercolor paintings are featured in the gallery. She is a master watercolorist with numerous awards in the Southwestern Watercolor Society and juried shows. Giddens holds a bachelor's degree in Art & Education and has spent most of her career as an art teacher in public and private schools while mastering the watercolor medium. Other award-winning artists featured in the gallery are well known in the community, exhibiting in public art shows, teaching classes and workshops, illustrating books and recognized by collectors and art lovers everywhere.

Special events will highlight the Grand Opening Celebration including artist demonstrations throughout the weekend. Guests will see extraordinary art work as well as viewing Gallery artists giving demonstrations of their unique styles. Guests can also enjoy refreshments, games and drawings for prizes and art work. On Saturday October 27 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., a special Grand Opening Reception will feature the resident artists on hand to talk about their works. The Gallery is open Sundays and Mondays from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m. and Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The Giddens Gallery of Fine Art is the latest in a series of galleries that have recently opened in Grapevine including Morgan Dane Art Gallery & Studio, Great American West, both located in Historic Downtown Grapevine. In addition, Grapevine is home to unique artisan crafts such as Vetro Glassblowing Studio, The Blacksmith Shop and the monthly Art2Market event in the Cotton Belt Railroad District. Grapevine will also be welcoming the Molten Metals Foundry in the next few weeks, which will be located in the Cotton Belt Railroad District. Grapevine is also home to A Touch of Paris Art Gallery and a variety of art instruction studios are located in Grapevine.

Continuing to enhance Grapevine's reputation as a premier art destination, the Grapevine CVB also has recently hosted three arts shows in the Tower Gallery, located in the new Headquarters and Museum Complex, including the 91st Annual National Watercolor Society Traveling Exhibition, Cinematic Rails, Trains In The Movies and the Art Hunger Show. Currently, the Tower Gallery is exhibiting the Texas Sculpture Association's Juried Sculpture Show through November 2.

Grapevine is also home to the Grapevine Art Project (GAP), a non-profit organization established to promote local artists, increase art appreciation and education of the visual arts and to bring regional and national art exhibits to Grapevine. GAP was responsible for bringing the 91st Annual National Watercolor Society Traveling Exhibition to Grapevine this past spring.
