GOVERNOR ABBOTT ISSUES PROCLAMATION ANNOUNCING MAY 2- 8 AS TEXAS TRAVEL AND TOURISM WEEK

National Travel & Tourism WeekGRAPEVINE, TEXAS (Monday, May 3, 2021) - Governor Greg Abbott has issued a proclamation announcing Sunday, May 2 - Saturday, May 8 as Texas Travel and Tourism Week. The proclamation emphasized the fact that the travel and tourism industry “remains an invaluable part of our livelihoods as well as our local economies.”

According to the proclamation, one in 10 Texas jobs were created by travel and the travel industry, which resulted in a $169 billion economic impact on the state’s economy.

The proclamation acknowledged that the COVID pandemic has created “unprecedented challenges” for the travel and tourism industry. Governor Abbott’s proclamation went on to honor Texans and the resilience of travel destinations across the state, noting “in March 2021, the leisure and hospitality sector took a lead in our economic recovery with 23,100 jobs added.”

Governor Abbott concluded the proclamation, signed on April 22, by encouraging everyone to visit TravelTexas.com to “learn more about the boundless opportunities that await those who are ready to take on their next adventure.”

Grapevine was a frontrunner in helping Texas travel and tourism rebound from the pandemic when it opened Hotel Vin in September 2020. Then in November 2020, it hosted one of the first over 600 in-person conferences to model how people could still safely hold large meetings during the pandemic. Harvest Hall opened to the public on February 6, 2021, featuring seven globally inspired kitchens.

An article sponsored by Grapevine’s Economic Development reported that “as a whole, the City of Grapevine is returning to a new normal. The COVID-19 caseload in Tarrant County — home to parts of Fort Worth and several suburbs, including Grapevine — has been trending downward. Job posting data shows a gradual rise in new positions, even in the afflicted retail sector, and hires have outpaced postings in many of the city’s key categories, including food preparation and sales. Employment is trending upward and approaching pre-COVID numbers.”
