GRAPEVINE HONORS THE HEROES OF 9/11
10th Anniversary Events Bring Police, Fire, Pilots and Flight Attendants Together with Public

Grapevine, TX (Sept. 1, 2011) -September 11, 2001 is among the most significant and the most tragic of dates in modern United States history. On this tenth anniversary of September 11, a full day of events is planned in Grapevine to honor the heroes of 9/11, as well as the brave firefighters, police officers and flight crews past and present.
A Flag Lowering and a Memorial Program, hosted by the 9/11 Memorial Foundation Texas, Lake Grapevine Runners & Walkers Club, Grapevine Fire and Police Departments, Allied Pilots Association and Association of Professional Flight Attendants, will be open for the public to attend at the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial Plaza. The events are held in remembrance of the uniformed men and women who were lost on 9/11, and in honor of patriotism and valor. Local boy scouts, including the Longhorn Council and Circle Ten Council, will stand post all day at the plaza. A special highlight of the Memorial Program features the US Honor Flag, which will participate in the morning ceremonies at Ground Zero in New York and then make its way to Grapevine.
The US Honor Flag, which flew over the rubble of Ground Zero, is on an ongoing national and international journey as a symbol of sacrifice and service. The flag has flown in Iraq and Afghanistan, in cities and towns across the U.S., and most recently was carried into space aboard the shuttle Atlantis on her farewell mission, in honor of those who have fallen in service to the American people and nation.
Also during the day, special showings of "United 93" and "The Guys" at the historic Palace Theatre recount the events and heroes of 9/11.
Happening this year only is the World Airline Road Race (WARR), bringing 3000 representatives of the airline industry from across the globe to Grapevine's Meadowmere Park for a 5K, 10K and One-Mile Remembrance Run and Dog Walk. The public is invited to register for "Running with the Big Dogs" and raise funds for the 9/11 Memorial Foundation Texas and Search One Rescue Team.
The 9/11 Memorial Foundation is a nonprofit organization now working on the construction of a bronze and granite life-sized sculpture in Grapevine honoring the 343 FDNY firefighters that were killed on Sept. 11, 2001. Search One Rescue Team, a canine unit based in Lewisville, Texas, is another nonprofit whose volunteers assist governmental agencies in searching for lost or missing persons. Registration is $37 per person, per race. Persons wishing to participate can
register online at www.WorldAirlineRoadRace.org.
All events will be held Sunday, Sept. 11 at 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial Plaza, 1000 Texan Trail (corner of Texan Trail and Northwest Highway), at Meadowmere Park (3013 Meadowmere Lane) and at the historic Palace Theatre (300 S. Main St.):

Showing of "United 93" -- Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. at the historic Palace Theatre. $5 per person. Cash only. Box office opens at noon -- On September, 11th 2001, two American Airlines and two United Airlines domestic U.S. flights are hijacked by terrorists. After the collision of two planes against the World Trade Center and one against the Pentagon, the passengers and crew of United Flight 93 decide to struggle against the four terrorist to take back the control of the
airplane.
"United 93" is the emotionally-packed and moving fact-based story about the passengers aboard doomed flight United 93 that was the fourth terrorist attack plane on September 11, 2001. The passengers on the flight, as a result of a delay on takeoff that placed them behind the planned attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, are able to learn of the attacks and discern that this is no mere high-jacking. While the real events that caused the ultimate crash of the plane can never be known, the events depicted would appear to be as might be expected.

Showing of "The Guys" - Sunday, September 11 at 4 p.m. at the historic Palace Theatre. $5 per person. Cash only. Box office opens at noon -- The story of a fire captain who lost eight men in the collapse of the World Trade Center and the editor who helps him prepare the eulogies he must deliver.
Adapted from a stage play by Anne Nelson, a drama centering on a slice of the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy. Nick, a fire captain, who lost eight men in the collapse of the World Trade Center, enlists help from an editor, Joan, to prepare their eulogies. Nick builds a relationship with Joan, who helps him put together the difficult, heartfelt speeches that he must deliver with honor, humor and poise--all the while, navigating his way through his own emotional response.
