What is the Cotton Belt Route?
The Cotton Belt Route is a one and a half hour trip from the Grapevine Depot on Main Street to the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. It boards at the Grapevine Depot at 12:30 p.m. and departs at 1:00 p.m. The train arrives at the Stockyards at approximately 2:30 p.m. The return trip to Grapevine re-boards at 4:05 p.m. following the cattle drive, leaves at 4:15 p.m. and returns to Grapevine at approximately 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. that evening.
What is the Fort Worth Stockyards Trinity River Ride?
The Fort Worth Stockyards Trinity River Ride is a one hour mini-excursion that leaves from the Fort Worth Stockyards and goes to south Fort Worth and back. It boards in the Fort Worth Stockyards at approximately 2:30, departs at approximately 2:45 and returns at approximately 3:45. During the trip, the train crosses both channels of the Trinity River, goes through Trinity Park and stops in the switchyard at 8th Avenue before returning to the Stockyards. During the trip, a narrative of the history of Fort Worth and the railroad is provided.
What type of locomotive engine is pulling the Grapevine Vintage Railroad Train?
We have two locomotives available. The 1896 steam locomotive, "Puffy," is in service on the first Saturday of most months throughout the year, as well as specially advertised excursions."Puffy," is currently out of service until it has completed its 15-year inspection. The 1953 diesel locomotive, "Vinny," is used for the regularly scheduled weekly service.
What is the Grapevine Fun Train?
The Grapevine Fun Train is a one hour mini-excursion that leaves from the Grapevine Depot and returns to the Grapevine Depot. This ride is on Saturdays during the Spring and Fall, and on Fridays during June and July. The train leaves the Depot at 10 a.m., travels west towards Colleyville, then reverses back, arriving at the Grapevine Depot at 11 a.m.
What days does the train run?
The train runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday between Memorial Day weekend (May) and Labor Day weekend (September) as well as most major holidays. From February until Memorial Day weekend and after Labor Day weekend up until Thanksgiving, the train only runs on Saturday and Sunday. Please be aware that during the year, special events may alter this running schedule. The train does not run in January due to yearly maintenance. Please check the current schedule for availability.
What is the age range for the various ticket prices?
Ticket prices for adults and children are the same on the Fort Worth Stockyards excursion. Children 12 months and under are considered infants and do ride for free, however they must sit in the lap of a parent and may not occupy a seat. Infant passengers do require a ticket. Notify the ticket agent for any children that are traveling under the age of 12 months old.
Are the seats on the train assigned?
The seats are assigned for the Cotton Belt Route and the Trinity River Ride. The Grapevine Fun Train is open seating so seating is not assigned. Two seating classes are available. Each passenger receives an assigned seat including a coach number, a row, number, and a seat number. All seating is bench style with 2 passengers per bench. Everyone in the same reservation will be seated together. If multiple families are traveling together, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad strongly advises everyone make one reservation together to ensure that your party is seated together. At this time, it is not possible to request a specific seat number or for passengers to select his or her own seating.
What are the differences between Touring and First Class seating?
The First Class coaches include air conditioning and Victorian-style, upholstered seating. Touring class coaches provide open-air travel with vintage wooden-backed, bench-style seating. Although there are ceiling fans, the touring coaches are not air conditioned. During the winter months, these coaches are enclosed with non-opening glass windows that are removed in the spring. All coaches are heated during the winter months.
Why are times “approximate”? Do I get a refund if the train is late?
The Grapevine Vintage Railroad makes every attempt to adhere to the posted schedules. However, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad cannot guarantee arrival times due shared rail traffic with freight trains and Amtrak. Delays maybe caused by excessive rail traffic or emergency track maintenance. The GVRR is considered an excursion train and essentially a guest on the tracks and other railroads get higher priority with the dispatcher. Therefore, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad is unable to offer refunds or compensation due to delays. On rare occasions, delays can be an hour or longer.
I missed the train. What is your refund policy?
Tickets are non-refundable. If you missed the train, please contact the train staff to reschedule for a different day. Refunds and reschedules are not offered if you miss the return trip in Fort Worth at 4:15.
Is food available on the train? Can I bring snacks or my own beverages?
Outside food and drinks are not allowed on the train. However, snack bars are located on board that sell a variety of food and drinks including bottled water, sodas, popcorn, candy, cookies and chips. All items are $1 to $2. The snack bars accept cash or credit cards.
What if I have special dietary needs due to a medical condition?
Special consideration is given to those with dietary restrictions due to medical circumstances such as diabetes and food allergies. If you have a special diet due to allergies or for a medical condition, you may bring your own food.
Can I bring formula for my infant?
Does the train offer any alcoholic beverages?
No. During the regular route to the Fort Worth Stockyards, the train only offers sodas, juice and water.
Are restrooms located on the train? Is there a baby changing station available?
There are several restrooms on the train. A baby changing station is located in the restroom of coach 206. However, due to periodic maintenance, 206 may not be running every day. Please note that restrooms on the train are not wheelchair accessible.
Can I bring my stroller on the train?
For the Cotton Belt Route trip from Grapevine to the Fort Worth Stockyards Stockyards, train staff will assist with loading, storing and unloading of strollers during the ride. For the Trinity River Run, strollers are stored in the ticket booth in the Stockyards and picked up at the conclusion of the ride. GVRR is not responsible for any damaged or lost strollers.
Can my child sit in his or her stroller while on board the train?
For safety reasons, children must ride in a seat or on the lap of a parent.
Is the train accessible for passengers using a wheelchair or requiring special assistance?
Yes, both depots have wheelchair lifts. The train can accommodate up to four wheelchairs per trip. Wheelchair accessible restrooms are available near the Grapevine Train Depot and in the Stockyards Station. The first class coaches and on board restrooms are not wheelchair accessible. When purchasing your tickets online, please include your special needs in the comment section including if you have a service animal. In person, please notify the ticket agent.
What is the best train ride for small children?
The Grapevine Fun Train or the Fort Worth Stockyards Trinity River Train, are one-hour round trip rides and are a great option for infants and young children.
What discounts do you offer?
Military discounts are available to our armed service men and women and their families. Please contact the Depot to reserve tickets with a military discount.
Can I walk between coaches during the ride?
Passengers can move between coaches during the ride to access the restrooms (located in the First Class Cars) or the snackbar (located in the Touring Class Cars). Passengers are asked to remain seated at all other times. There is no access between coaches and the caboose. Please be aware that the end platforms are off limits to passengers at all times and that passengers may not stand in the vestibules (area between coaches) while the train is moving.
Are pets allowed on the train?
No. Only service animals assisting the handicapped are allowed on the train. Accommodations for service animals are limited to the touring coaches. If you need to bring a service animal aboard, please note it in the comment section of your reservation or notify the ticket agent at the time of purchase.
Are smoking accommodations available?
The entire train is non-smoking.

What time does the ticket office open in Grapevine?
The ticket office is located inside the Cotton Belt Depot and opens at 11 a.m. on the days the train is running. Tickets can also be purchased in advance online at www.gvrr.com up until midnight of the night before the trip or by phone at 817-410-3185 (between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.). Tickets may only be purchased in person at the station the day of the trip. We cannot hold tickets by phone or online the day of departure.
What time does the train board in Grapevine? What is the departure time?
The train begins boarding at 12:30 p.m. and the train departs promptly at 1 p.m. Please be aware that once the train starts moving, it cannot stop for late passengers. All passengers should be on board at least 15 minutes before departure. Ticket sales stop 5 minutes before the train departs.
Where does the train board in Grapevine?
Boarding takes place on the platform behind the Cotton Belt Depot. The platform is covered and has limited seating.
When will the train return to Grapevine?
The train returns approximately 5:45 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Where can I park in Grapevine to ride the train?
Free parking is available in front of the Cotton Belt Depot, across Main Street near Tower 16, or on Dallas Road across from the Grapevine Police Station.
Is the Grapevine Train Depot within walking distance to Historic Downtown Grapevine?
Yes, it is an easy walk to all the shopping and restaurants on Main Street in Historic Downtown Grapevine.
How much time will I have in the Stockyards?
Passengers have approximately one and a half hours to explore the Fort Worth Stockyards.
Will I get to see the Fort Worth Herd Cattle Drive?
The Fort Worth Herd Cattle Drive takes place 7 days a week at both 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. weather permitting. The train will begin boarding at 4:05 immediately following the cattle drive allowing time for passengers returning to Grapevine to see it before the train departs.
What time does the train depart the Stockyards?
The train departs at 4:15 sharp. We cannot hold the train for anyone and the train cannot stop once it begins moving. Please make sure you are back on board at least five minutes before the train departs.
Is there a gift shop to purchase souvenirs?
Train souvenirs may be purchased in the Grapevine Depot, open Saturday, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Grapevine souvenirs may be purchased at the Visitor Information Center, located across the street from the Grapevine Depot, during regular business hours. The Grapevine Visitor Information Center is located at 636 S. Main St.
Where is the Stockyard ticket office?
The Stockyard Ticket office is located inside the Stockyards Station pavilion near the center of the building by the train tracks. The address is: 130 E. Exchange Ave, Fort Worth 76106.
Where can I park in the Stockyards to ride the train?
Guests can park in any marked public parking lot in the Stockyards area. Paid parking is typically $5.00
What time does the Stockyards ticket booth open?
The ticket booth opens at 1 p.m. and tickets are sold up until 2:40 p.m. (Approximately 5 minutes before the train departs.) The ticket booth is open until 4:15p.m., when the train returns to Grapevine.
Will I get off the train or can I ride the Fort Worth Stockyards Trinity River Ride one-way?
No. You do not disembark from the train once it reaches 8th Avenue nor is it possible to ride one-way only. The trip begins and ends in the Stockyards. There is a brief layover in the switchyard while our locomotive moves to the other end of the train. It takes approximately 5 to 7 minutes to make this change.
What time is boarding for the Trinity River Ride? When does it depart and return?
Boarding for the Trinity River Run is approximately 2:30 p.m. The train will depart approximately 2:45 p.m. and the one-hour trip will return at approximately 3:45 p.m..
Will I be able to view the Cattle Drive if I ride the Trinity River Run?
The Trinity River Run should return before the Cattle Drive starts. However, if the train is running late coming in from Grapevine, there is a possibility that the Trinity River Run will leave late and not return in time to see it. Please be aware that we cannot guarantee passengers on the Trinity River Run will get to see the cattle drive. It is not visible from the train.
What time is boarding and departure for the return trip to Grapevine?
The train will board at approximately 4:05 p.m. after returning from the Trinity River Run and following the cattle drive. The train departs for Grapevine at 4:15 p.m. and returns to Grapevine approximately between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. that evening. Passengers that miss the 4:15 train are responsible for their own transportation back to Grapevine and are not entitled to a refund or reschedule.
Can I ride from the Stockyards to Grapevine and back?
You cannot ride from the Stockyards to Grapevine and back in the same day. It is possible to book a reverse run on different days where you leave the Stockyards, stay the night in Grapevine and return on the following day on the 1 p.m. train. Please remember that the train does not run Monday through Thursday except for holiday weekends. Can I buy a ticket in the Stockyards to go one way to Grapevine?
Yes, one-way tickets can be purchased from the Fort Worth Stockyards to Grapevine pending availability. Please be aware that this is the return trip for passengers that came to the Stockyards from Grapevine and there may not be seating available for one-way passengers on the return trip. It is highly advised that one-way passengers make advanced reservations. Passengers riding one way are responsible for any return transportation to the Fort Worth Stockyards.
Groups, Special Events and Other Information: How many people are required to receive the “Group Rate” on a train?
Twelve or more people in a party qualify for the group rate. Groups must be booked in advanced and cannot be sold as walk-ups to receive the "Group Rate".

Is it possible to ride in the caboose? Is it available for rental? How many passengers can it hold?
The caboose is a private car used for parties and must be booked at least 1 week in advance. It holds 12 people and is not available as a walk-up option. For more information about booking the caboose, please call 817-410-3579. The caboose is currently out of service until further notice.
Is it possible to ride in the cab of the locomotive?
Cab ride reservations are available. Some restrictions apply. Please call 817-410-3579 for more information, availability and pricing.
When is Day Out With Thomas™?
Day Out With Thomas occurs in the Spring for 2 weekends, usually March or April. Please visit www.gvrr.com for more information and pricing.
When is the North Pole Express™?
The North Pole Express runs during the Christmas season. Please visit www.gvrr.com for more information and pricing.
Can I book a birthday party during Day Out With Thomas™ or the North Pole Express™?
Birthday parties are not available during Day Out With Thomas, North Pole Express or any other special events.
Does the train still go to the Stockyards or Trinity River Run during Day Out With Thomas™ or North Pole Express™?
During special events such as Day Out With Thomas and The North Pole Express, regular service is suspended and there are no trips to the Fort Worth Stockyards during these events. Unless otherwise noted, all special event trains are located at the Grapevine Depot and do not go to the Fort Worth Stockyards.
