The 800-pound sculpture, which symbolizes action, dreams and wishes, was dedicated in 2015 at the Christmas Capital of Texas annual Parade of Lights. The 4.5-foot-tall unicorn has a 5-foot wingspan. Its wings are spread to give flight to your imagination and to illustrate how dreams take flight and memories are made in Grapevine.
Enjoy this piece of art as you walk along the Public Art Trail, where you can see dozens of other pieces of public art.
Below is a poem by Sallie Andrews for “Imagine,” The Flying Unicorn Tribute To the Staff of the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau
Imagine, just once, if you dare
The kind of people working in there,
In a building where dreams and smiles are bright
It’s a place where a flying unicorn lights.
To signify for all the world to see
That here’s where the most talented people can be
Found working, creating new memories to share
With people coming to Grapevine from everywhere!
“Imagine” knows that children store in their minds
The memories of their very best times
High up on the seats of Ferris wheel rides
Or seeing Santa and snow during holiday time.
In Grapevine imaginations do soar
With new events, family fun, fine wine and much more
“Imagine’s” strong wings add the magical lift
And dreams do come true, thanks to this staff’s gifts.
