CELEBRATE FALL FUN IN GRAPEVINE OCTOBER 19

Family-Friendly Seasonal Activities Feature Butterflies, Farm Activities, Grapevine Botanical Gardens and More

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS (September 26, 2013) - On Saturday, October 19, Grapevine will be the center of fall fun in North Texas with a pumpkin full of family-friendly activities.

Start your day at the 16th Annual Butterfly Flutterby. Celebrating the migration of the monarch butterfly, the day begins with a Butterfly Costume Parade. This year, the Parade will follow a brand new route, starting at East Wall and Jenkins Streets (across from City Hall) and ending at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park. Children and pets are invited to wear their favorite butterfly costume for the Parade. Registration for the Costume Parade begins at 8:45 a.m., with the Parade beginning at 10 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to registered Parade participants. Judging will occur for different age categories, pets and groups. After the Parade, see butterfly exhibits and participate in the butterfly arts and crafts. Refreshments are available for purchase. Live butterfly releases will occur throughout the event at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens.

Also on October 19, experience life on the farm at the 13th Annual Fall Round-Up at Grapevine's historic Nash Farm, 626 Ball St. Admission is free but some activities require a participation fee. Activities at the 13th Annual Fall Round-Up include kitchen gardening, live music, farm animals, blacksmith and wood carving demonstrations, cotton picking, heritage toys, wood-burning stove cooking demonstrations, petting zoo, heritage games and more.

And new this year is the Somethin' Pumpkin Baking Contest where guests can enter their best pumpkin-flavored baked goods. The contest is open to all ages and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. For more information, contact francesj2@netscape.net. Continue your celebration of the butterfly at the Grapevine Garden Club's Plant Sale on October 19. The fall plant sale will focus on butterfly nectar and host plants. The sale will feature native and adaptive trees and shrubs along with an educational film and exhibits, butterfly garden tutorials, fresh cut-flower garden, butterfly motif, garden sale and children's activities. The event takes place at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens, 411 Ball St., 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. And fans of the Grapevine Botanical Garden will want to make plans to attend the 2013 Sunset Concert Series on Saturday evenings during the month of October. On October 19 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., the Sunset Concert Series at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens will feature the final concert of the season with the Lone Star Jazz Orchestra. Bring a blanket and enjoy beautiful jazz in the lush setting. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
