Get the GuideLocomotive 2248 - "Puffy"
Locomotive 2248, affectionately named "Puffy," was built in 1896 by Cooke Locomotive Works of Paterson, New Jersey, as a Heavy Mountain-Class locomotive. The oil fired 4-6-0 "ten-wheeler" was built for and used by the Southern Pacific Railroad and spent the first 70 years working out west in California. Puffy spend the first 30 years pulling both freight and passenger trains. She once had the honor of carrying the 27th President of the United States, William Howard Taft.
In the 1930s and 1940s, her service was extended long past the time that many steam engines had been replaced by diesels by being converted to a mountain district to fight forest, snow shed and tunnel fires. As more modern fire control methods became available, 2248 was remodeled and assigned to exhibition train service as a ceremonial engine for the Southern Pacific.
She was purchased by Fort Worth and Western Railroad and used to pull the "Tarantula" steam excursion train in Fort Worth. In 1996, service began between Grapevine and Fort Worth and she was purchased by the Grapevine Vintage Railroad in July 2000.
Puffy is currently out of service for restoration.

Locomotive 2199 - Vinny
The Grapevine Vintage Railroad's Diesel Locomotive 2199, nicknamed "Vinny," was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and General Motors Diesel in the early 1950s. Engine 2199 was purchased from Great Western Railway of Colorado by the Grapevine Vintage Railroad in July 2003.
Vinny is powered by an EMD 567B 16-cylinder, 2000 horsepower engine. They were the first EMD road locomotives to use a hood unit design instead of a car-body design. This proved to be more efficient than the cab unit design as it cost less, was less expensive to maintain and had better visibility.
